FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 26, 2025

NASSAU, The Bahamas — August 26, 2025 – Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL)
is pleased to announce that rotational load shedding on Cat Island officially ended at 2:55 AM
on Tuesday, August 26, marking a major milestone in the island’s path toward full restoration of
reliable electricity supply.

Through the coordinated efforts of BPL’s technical teams and leadership, all four generation
units are now on island, with three fully available and two currently online. The fourth unit
is undergoing final mechanical repairs and is expected to be commissioned by the weekend,
restoring the generation fleet to full capacity.

“This is a proud moment for both BPL and the residents of Cat Island. We committed to resolving
this issue swiftly, and our teams delivered. The load shedding that began on August 11 is now
behind us, and we look forward to having all units fully operational in the coming days.”

— Pedro Marcello, BPL Family Regional Island Manager

Speaking at a press briefing last week at the Office of the Prime Minister, BPL CEO Toni
Seymour assured the public that restoration efforts were progressing and that BPL personnel were
working “around the clock” to restore full power. That assurance has now been realized.

The generation shortfall occurred after two of the island’s four engines — CI 1 and CI 2 —
were taken out of service due to mechanical issues, leaving the remaining two units unable to
meet total demand. This resulted in the implementation of a temporary load shedding schedule,
alternating supply between North and South Cat Island.

Thanks to BPL’s rapid mobilization, technical expertise, and commitment to reliable service, the
situation was addressed with urgency and precision.

“As a native of Long Island, I fully understand how vital consistent electricity supply is to our
Family Island communities. We appreciate the patience shown by the residents of Cat Island and
remain committed to delivering the quality of service they deserve.”

— Toni Seymour, BPL Chief Executive Officer
