According to Marvin Greene, BPL Regional Manager, Northern Division, power supplied via the North Station was restored up to Bowen Sound by 3:00 p.m. Sunday, and further restoration brought power up to Cargill Creek around 10:00 p.m. Sunday. As of 9:00 a.m. Monday, September 1, Behring Point was the only community still without electricity; technicians are working to restore service by or before noon today.
All commercial customers on the island remain on generator power. “Once we complete all technical checks and the power generation system on the island has been stabilized, we can begin to bring them back online on a case-by-case basis,” said Greene.
All schools on Andros — except for those within the Behring Point community — have had their power supply restored. Rental generator units, acquired from a vendor in Grand Bahama, are expected to arrive in Andros before nightfall.
“Once we complete all of our technical checks and the power generation system on the island has been stabilized, we can begin to bring [commercial customers] back online on a case-by-case basis.”
BPL thanks the residents of Andros for their patience as teams worked throughout the day to restore power safely and quickly. The company also recognizes the BPL team in Andros for their outstanding efforts, and extends appreciation to Commander Jeremy Reed, Officer in Charge of the AUTEC
