BPL Launches Web-Based Service Hub; Emergency Response Teams on Standby for Storm Response

Nassau, Bahamas – Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) has officially launched its innovative online Service Hub, a user-friendly, web-based platform designed to help customers across The Bahamas report storm-related power outages and infrastructure damage in real time.

The platform, which is accessible at http://bit.ly/3VYvkSp, allows consumers to submit location-tagged photos and details of outages or damage, helping BPL assess and respond to incidents more efficiently.

“As we monitor the path of Tropical Depression 9, soon to be named Tropical Storm Imelda, approaching the Northwest and Central Bahamas, we recognize the potential threat severe weather poses to our power systems,” said Scottie Brown, BPL’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager.

“This new web platform empowers customers to report issues quickly, and enables our teams to coordinate more effective responses across affected areas.”

The web-based service is part of BPL’s expanded Service Hub, powered by Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology.

GIS integrates maps with real-time data to help utility companies like BPL track, plan, and manage infrastructure, particularly during emergencies.

“For our teams, GIS provides the tools to prioritize and resolve reports efficiently,” Brown added. “It ensures timely, organized responses and offers customers status updates and clearer communication. This level of transparency not only improves trust but also helps us streamline operations during critical periods.”

As the storm continues to develop, BPL Chief Operations Officer Anthony Christie confirmed that the company has activated its full Hurricane Action Plan.

“All emergency response teams across our Family Island operations are on high alert and fully mobilized to respond to any disruptions caused by the storm,” Christie said. “We are committed to minimizing impact and restoring service as quickly as possible for our valued customers.”

As of 3:00 p.m. today, the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Authority issued evacuation orders for the following communities in Grand Bahama: Freetown, High Rock, Pelican Point, McLean’s Town, and nearby cays. In Abaco, evacuation notices were issued for the RV Trailer Park Site next to the Government Complex in Marsh Harbour, as well as for Grand Cay and Walker’s Cay.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the Northwest and Central Bahamas, including Eleuthera, New Providence, Abaco, Andros, Berry Islands, Grand Bahama, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Long Island, Exuma and its Cays, and Cat Island.

BPL encourages all customers to stay connected through its BPL Direct WhatsApp Channel, as well as official Instagram and Facebook pages, for up-to-the-minute updates on outages, safety advisories, and restoration efforts.

We extend our thoughts and prayers to all residents and BPL staff in the storm’s projected path. Please remain safe.
