Update (9:04 p.m., Monday): Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) is pleased to report that power has been successfully restored to Crooked Island as of 9:04 p.m. on Monday. BPL thanks customers for their patience and cooperation while teams worked to safely complete restoration efforts.

Nassau, The Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) confirms that progress is being made in restoration efforts on Crooked Island following an island-wide power outage that occurred on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

Technicians from New Providence, along with a mechanical and electrical (M&E) technician, arrived in Crooked Island late this afternoon to assist with repairs to a malfunctioning M&E power generation unit. The team has successfully identified a replacement regulator, which is expected to arrive in Crooked Island within the next 48 hours.

“The replacement regulator was sourced from a U.S.-based supplier and is being shipped overnight to St. Augustine, Florida, arriving Tuesday morning, before continuing to New Providence and onward to Crooked Island by Wednesday. In the interim, progress is being made as we attempt to retrofit and reconfigure a regulator that we have on site to see if we can make that work while we await for the part which we ordered to arrive,” explained Pedro Marcello, Regional Manager for the Southern Region, Family Island Division.

He further noted that BPL typically maintains adequate inventory for its equipment; however, the unit that malfunctioned over the weekend is a newer model supplied by M&E. “Even the Caterpillar dealership in New Providence does not have this part in stock,” he said.

“We empathize with our 220 consumers who have been without power since the unit malfunctioned on Saturday, and we continue to assure them that we are working as quickly as possible to resolve this matter.”

Consumers in Crooked Island are encouraged to join BPL’s recently launched Southern Regional WhatsApp Direct Channel for real-time updates:
