FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Providence, Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) continues to demonstrate its commitment to community health and wellbeing, donating a combined $5000 to support kidney care initiatives across The Bahamas and sponsoring the Bahamas Kidney Association’s inaugural Emerald Soirée held on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
BPL donated $3,000 to the Bahamas Kidney Association in support of its public awareness and patient assistance programmes, and an additional $1,500 to the Bahamas Kidney Center in Grand Bahama, reinforcing the Company’s commitment to organizations providing critical care to those living with kidney disease.
Director of Communications, Theodore Sealy, said BPL was proud to support an organization whose work continues to make a meaningful impact across the country. “It’s one thing to see people who are hurting, but it’s another thing to extend our hearts and our hands to help them in their time of need,” said Sealy. “The Bahamas Kidney Association continues to do tremendous work, not only raising awareness, but also providing essential support, equipment, and medication for those who need it most. At BPL, we believe in empowering beyond the grid; we empower lives.”
President of the Bahamas Kidney Association, Takima Roberts, expressed appreciation for BPL’s partnership, noting that the Company’s support plays a key role in advancing the Association’s mission.
“BPL is a staple in our community, and your support means more than just a donation; it helps shine the spotlight on kidney disease and the work that still needs to be done,” said Roberts. “The Emerald Soirée sold out even before March, and that told us something powerful, that The Bahamas is ready to have this conversation, ready to support, and ready to stand with those living with kidney disease.”
She added that funds raised will directly assist patients who undergo treatment multiple times per week, emphasizing the importance of continued public awareness and community support.
BPL Chief Financial Officer, Chandrice Ferguson, shared a personal perspective on the realities faced by families navigating kidney disease, underscoring the financial and emotional challenges involved.“I know firsthand the struggle of persons living with kidney disease,” said Ferguson. “When my father was diagnosed with renal failure, the cost of medication alone was high, and that’s before you consider the lifestyle changes and ongoing care required. That’s why education and support must go hand in hand in this fight. This is a cause that truly deserves the support of the entire community.”
As BPL continues to “Build for Better,” it remains committed to advancing initiatives that uplift and support communities across The Bahamas.
