New Providence, Bahamas— Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) continues to demonstrate its commitment to youth development and national progress by investing in the next generation of Bahamian athletes through a meaningful donation to the Lucayans Youth Organization (Lucayans).

The sponsorship will power the participation of three outstanding young female athletes, Gabriel Kemp, Zion Higgs, and Dina Risque, in the Lucayans Annual Easter College Tour and Basketball/Volleyball Trip. It will cover critical expenses associated with their participation in the program, including airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, a full uniform package, tournament fees, training and development sessions, and college tour costs.

BPL CEO Toni Pratt presented the sponsorship cheque, emphasizing the company’s growing commitment to youth development and community investment.

“BPL is pleased to partner with the Lucayans as these young athletes prepare to participate in this training camp,” Pratt said. “We are especially proud to support one of our team members’ daughters through this initiative. As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are placing greater emphasis on youth-based programs because we know the youth are the future of our nation.”

Lucayans Coach Charma Johnson-Smith thanked BPL for its support and highlighted the opportunity the program will provide for the athletes. “I would like to thank BPL for sponsoring these young ladies,” Johnson-Smith said. “This training camp and college tour will give them exposure to high schools and universities and could open the door to scholarship opportunities to further their education.”

Stephanie Kemp, a BPL cashier and mother of Gabriel Kemp, said she is happy to work at a company that treats the family of its employees as its own. “I’m proud to be part of an organization that is willing to invest in the youth of this nation,” Kemp said. “It means a lot to see my daughter benefit from an opportunity like this.”

Lucayans player and daughter of Stephanie Kemp, Gabriel Kemp, also expressed appreciation for the sponsorship. “I’m excited about the opportunity given to us,” she said. “It’s not just an opportunity for me, but for my teammates as well, and I’m very grateful to BPL for supporting our team.”

BPL Director of Human Resources Daphne Simmons highlighted the company’s strong culture of family and support. “At BPL, we often say we are one BPL family, and we truly mean that,” Simmons said. “There is the immediate BPL family and the extended family, and supporting our employees and their children is something we take great pride in.”

BPL remains committed to supporting initiatives that empower young Bahamians, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for the next generation to excel both on and off the field.
