New Providence, The Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) has further solidified its position as a corporate entity committed to empowering young Bahamians through the donation of three robotic arm kits to the University of The Bahamas (UB) Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
The robotic arm kits – to be assembled by UB engineering students – will provide hands-on exposure to modern technology and practical applications of the theories they are learning in the classroom.
BPL’s Director of Health, Safety, and Environment and Vice President of the Nassau City Chapter of NSBE, Zanda Bonamy, said the power generation company is proud to invest in the future of engineering in The Bahamas.
“As the country’s primary power producer, BPL has always played a role in fostering and growing the local engineering sector,” Bonamy said. “Investing in our future engineers expands their knowledge and broadens their awareness of the opportunities available to them. As we modernize our energy supply, we will need more innovation and more engineers, which is why we must continue to invest in our youth.”
Justin Johnson, Vice President of the UB Chapter of NSBE, expressed gratitude for the donation.
“Donations and mentorship are what help to sustain our Chapter,” Johnson said. “They give us practical, real-world experience and insight into how engineering works beyond the classroom. Many of our students are interested in robotics, so there is a great deal of excitement surrounding these robotic arm kits.”
As BPL advances into its New Energy Era and continues to “Build for Better,” the Company remains committed to supporting the development of future engineers and energy leaders who will help power The Bahamas for generations to come.
