NASSAU, Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) confirms that restoration efforts are actively underway in Fresh Creek, Andros, following a fire at the local power station early Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m., resulted in the loss of a trailer unit and one building shed, but quick response from station personnel prevented the blaze from spreading to the main generation facility.
While some switchgear and cabling were damaged, the core generation assets inside the station were preserved. Additional support is being mobilized from sister islands and vendor partners to accelerate the restoration process.
As part of immediate relief measures, two rental generation units have been secured from a vendor in Grand Bahama. Arrangements for a charter are in progress to transport the units directly into Central Andros, with mobilization expected to commence today. This will provide much-needed capacity while permanent repairs progress.
In the meantime, equipment at the North Station is being utilized to energize some customers until the rental units are fully online.
“This is an all-hands effort, and I want the people of Andros to know that restoring their power is our top priority. We moved quickly to secure two rental units and arrange a charter to bring them into Central Andros today. I want to thank our dedicated BPL team for their tireless work on the ground and our vendor partners for responding so quickly to support us. The people of Andros can be assured that we will not stop until reliable service is restored.”
“The team has been fighting feverishly and was able to secure the power station—the main structure—and preserve additional units on the inside. Of course, it is still impacted and out of service, but saving the facility gives us the foundation to rebuild quickly.”
BPL assures the public of its full commitment to restoring reliable service to Fresh Creek, Central Andros. Customers are encouraged to monitor official BPL channels for further updates as work continues.
