BPL Technician Arrives In Crooked Island To Support Restoration Efforts
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 2, 2026
Crooked Island, The Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) confirms that a BPL technician from New Providence has arrived in Crooked Island to assist with restoration efforts following an early morning island-wide power outage on Friday, January 2, 2026.
The outage occurred in the Fairfield area at approximately 2:38 a.m. when a primary high-voltage (HV) line fell, resulting in a cable fault. The fault bypassed the intelliruptor installed near the power station and travelled directly to a recently acquired generator, causing a loss of power supply across the island.
“We understand the inconvenience these outages have caused, and we want residents to know that restoring reliable electricity remains our top priority,” said Pedro Marcello, Regional Manager, Southern Region. “BPL has taken every effort to restore supply as quickly as possible.”
Mr. Marcello also confirmed that while repairs are underway to bring the malfunctioned unit back online, the BPL team in New Providence is in the process of sending recently purchased parts to Crooked Island as technicians there continue the overhaul of two units, which are currently offline for repair.
BPL apologizes for any inconvenience caused and thanks consumers on Crooked Island for their patience as teams continue to work safely and speedily to restore power.
