FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 11, 2025

Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) is pleased to advise that power has been fully restored across The Abacos following the recent extended power outage, which stemmed from the Wilson City Power Station (WCPS). Significant progress was made overnight, into the early morning hours, as teams completed staged restoration efforts across the island and its cays.

After hours of load testing the replacement compressor, technicians successfully restored the power supply at the WCPS at 2:11 a.m. Once generation was restored, crews began closing feeders and reenergizing communities. Mainland Abaco and the Cays were fully restored by 3:25 a.m. – with the exception of a small pocket of consumers in Hope Town and White Sound. These communities remain offline due to an unrelated cable fault. Special equipment required to locate and repair the fault is being transported to Hope Town, and restoration efforts for the remaining customers will continue this morning.

Northern Family Island Regional Manager Marvin Green expressed deep gratitude for the resilience and dedication displayed by BPL’s teams over the past two days.

“Our hardworking teams, some of whom have slept at the power plant for the last two days, have given everything they had,” Green said. “Our Field Operations Team on the Distribution side worked through the nights to ensure we could share the little power we had available, even while their own families were in darkness. And our Generation Team never wavered. When one thing failed, they pressed forward. They kept going.”

Green emphasized that the emotional toll of the outage was shared by employees and customers alike.

“It pains us to see our customers and our families suffer. We understand the frustration because we are in the very same boat. I want to publicly thank our teams for their strength and resilience as we continue to ‘Build for Better,’ despite the challenges.”

BPL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused and thanks its valued consumers across Abaco for their patience and understanding as crews worked around the clock to restore power to The Abaco.
