BPL Powers Youth Empowerment Through Nationwide Education and Athletics Initiatives

New Providence, The Bahamas— Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) continues to deepen its investment in youth development, supporting a series of educational, leadership and athletic initiatives over the past four weeks aimed at empowering young people across The Bahamas, highlighted by the Comapany’s Gold Sponsorship of the Frank ‘Pancho’ Rahming All Schools Track and Field National Championships, held April 13–17, 2026 at the old Thomas A. Robinson Track and Field Stadium.
As part of its sponsorship of the Championships, the Company provided travel-related assistance for seven student-athletes from Abaco, helping ensure Family Island athletes had an opportunity to compete on the national stage.
CEO Pratt said investing in youth remains central to BPL’s commitment to national development. “At BPL, we believe empowering young people is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in the future of our country,” said Pratt. “Whether through literacy, leadership development, academic support or athletics, we are proud to support initiatives that help our future energy leaders grow, excel and realize their full potential.”
BPL Director of Communications Theodore Sealy said the Company’s support of the All Schools Championships aligns with the Company’s broader commitment to creating opportunity for young Bahamians.
“As a company that operates across 17 different islands, we are especially proud to support athletes from the Family Islands, ensuring that talent, no matter where it comes from, is given the opportunity to shine,” said Sealy.
BPL Consumer Clerk for the San Salvador Office and chaperone to the Championships for the United Estates Primary Woodpeckers, Helena Saunders, expressed her gratitude to BPL for its continued support of the nation’s future leaders.
“I am extremely proud to be a part of a company that constantly invests in events and initiatives that empower the nation’s youth.” She added, “My two children are participating in this Championship today, and it feels good to know that my employer cares about my children and their success.”
Among these efforts, BPL supported the High School Scholastic Chess Pilot Program at Doris Johnson Senior High School and North Eleuthera High School, helping promote strategic thinking, discipline and academic engagement among students. The Company also sponsored the L.W. Young Junior High School Boys and Girls Empowerment Club, while supporting several young men participating in the Gentlemen’s Club programme, reinforcing BPL’s commitment to mentorship, leadership development and positive youth engagement.
Further advancing its support for education and career awareness, BPL manned a booth at the Bahamas Technical Cadet Corps Development Summit, engaging students on career opportunities in the energy sector and introducing them to pathways in the industry.

CEO Toni Pratt, along with members of the executive team and the Communications Department, also participated in St. Thomas Moore’s Spring Into Reading 2026 Read-Paint Jam, reinforcing the Company’s commitment to educational enrichment and community involvement. Continuing that support, BPL will also help power St. Thomas Moore’s Numeracy Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, supporting efforts to promote numeracy skills and student achievement.
Through initiatives such as these, BPL continues to “Build for Better” and reinforce its role not only as an energy provider, but as a partner in national development, supporting education, youth empowerment and stronger communities across The Bahamas.
