BPL Issues Warning Against Improper Pole Attachments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 13, 2026

Nassau, Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light Company Limited (BPL) wishes to advise the
public that drilling into utility poles, or wrapping fabric and other materials around poles, is not
permitted under any circumstances.

BPL acknowledges heightened activity during the election season; however, these types of
installations create potential hazards and can compromise the integrity of essential electrical
infrastructure. These restrictions are consistently enforced year-round, including during festive
periods, in the interest of public safety and system reliability.

In accordance with BPL’s Pole Attachment Agreement, Section 13(b) clearly outlines that all
approved attachments to BPL poles must be secured using appropriate banding methods, such as
stainless steel bands, straps, or wire clamps—particularly on poles with streetlights. Under no
circumstances is drilling into BPL poles allowed. Should there be a need for any exception, a
formal request must be submitted to BPL for review. Such requests will be assessed at BPL’s
sole discretion, with careful consideration given to the structural integrity, longevity, and
ongoing maintenance of the pole.

BPL respectfully urges all political parties, organizations, and members of the public to comply
with these guidelines and to refrain from placing fabric or any unauthorized materials on utility
and lamp poles.

We thank the public for their cooperation in helping to protect our infrastructure and ensure the
safety and reliability of the electrical network.
