Two weeks into their month-long mission to restore power in Jamaica, Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd.’s (BPL) seven-member technical team report steady progress on the ground. In a show of continued support, BPL executives shipped more than $5,000 worth of care packages to the team, and its regional counterparts, on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

The care packages, which left on a 1:00 pm Bahamasair flight to Kingston, Jamaica, were received by the Bahamian Consul General for Jamaica, Alveta Knight, and subsequently handed over to the BPL Restoration Team Lead in Jamaica, Assistant Engineer, Kervin Jones. These packages were sent to ensure that our team members, as well as 10 other technicians from Dominica and Grenada, remain equipped, nourished, and supported as they carry out critical restoration efforts.

“We know what it’s like to experience a storm of this magnitude,” said BPL CEO Toni Seymour. “Jamaica was the first country on the ground supporting our recovery efforts after Hurricane Dorian. It is only right that we return the favour and stand with our neighbour in their time of need.”

The list of items included:

  • Water
  • Tuna
  • Working Gloves
  • Safety Shades
  • Gatorade
  • Wet Wipes
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Insect Repellent
  • Sunblock
  • Flash Lights
  • Cooler Bags
  • Waterproof Bags
  • 5 Coolers
  • Snacks
  • Power Banks
  • Toiletries
  • Water Bottles

“It’s important that we show our support for our team members and their counterparts who are powering restoration efforts in Jamaica,” said Director of Human Resources, Daphne Simmons.

“We may not all be able to physically join the recovery efforts, but we can ensure that those on the front lines, who are representing us so well, have everything they need to succeed.”

Jones said he is extremely proud of his team’s progress as they move between parishes to repair and install new infrastructure while restoring power supply.

“We are working long hours, from sunrise to sunset, to restore power to affected consumers,” said Jones. “These supplies will not only greatly assist us by keeping our teams energized, safe, and able to continue delivering the support Jamaica desperately needs – but we will also be able to ensure that our brothers from Dominica and Grenada receive additional sustenance as we work together to restore power.”

Supplies, logistics and assistance for the Bahamian restoration team in Jamaica was led by CEO Toni Seymour, Director of Human Resources Daphne Simmons, Operations Manager Patrick Ferguson, Sr. Manager of Human Resources Sandralee Edgar, Bahamas Electrical Workers Union President Kyle Wilson, Human Resources Manager Lakeisha Thomas, Human Resources Associate Radesha Carey, as well as Foreman Kranston Simms, Foreman Anthony Watkins, Chargehand Prescott Ferguson and GSW Tech Ashtwood Bodie from the Facilities Department.

As recovery efforts continue, BPL remains committed to standing with the people of Jamaica—just as Jamaica once stood with The Bahamas. In times of crisis, the strength of the Caribbean shines brightest when we show up for each other.
