BPL CEO Inspires Next Generation of Energy Leaders at INTI Future Energy Leaders Forum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 10, 2025
NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Chief Executive Officer of Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL), Toni Seymour, energized a room full of bright young minds attending the inaugural 2025 INTI Future Energy Leaders Forum. Her remarks sparked inspiration among dozens of students from across The Bahamas to become the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and power players shaping the nation’s energy future.
The forum, held at the British Colonial Hotel on Friday, October 10, 2025, highlighted the intersection between renewable energy and education. The first-time event welcomed more than 50 students from 45 schools across New Providence, Long Island, and Grand Bahama Island.
During her presentation, Seymour highlighted the diversity of career options available in the energy sector.
“At BPL, we have a diverse team comprising individuals from various backgrounds — Engineers, Accountants, Environmental Scientists, Digital Communicators, and Customer Service Specialists. Energy isn’t just an industry; it’s an ecosystem. Whatever your talent is, there’s a place for you here.”
She added, “When I look around this room, I see innovators, problem-solvers, creators, and dreamers all gathered under one roof, and it gives me hope.”
Seymour emphasized BPL’s ongoing transformation and the vital role young people will play in shaping a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy future for The Bahamas.
“We are in the midst of a new energy era — one where BPL, the Government of The Bahamas, and our partners are working together to modernize our power systems, integrate renewable energy, and reduce our dependence on imported fuel.”
She encouraged students to reimagine what’s possible and not to underestimate the power of their ideas.
“The Bahamas needs young people who will reimagine what’s possible, who will ask how we can power our nation in ways that are cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable. Every great energy innovation starts with a spark — and The Bahamas needs your spark.”
Seymour underscored that energy is not only about electricity, but also about empowerment — empowering communities, innovation, and the next generation of Bahamian talent. She encouraged students to start shaping the future now by remaining curious and engaged.
“The energy sector of tomorrow will look very different, and it’s one where you could play an important part. But you don’t have to wait until tomorrow to make a difference — start now. Stay curious. Ask questions. Explore technology, science, business, communication — whatever sparks your interest.”
Also in attendance was Minister of Energy and Transport, Hon. JoBeth Coleby-Davis, who reassured attendees of the bright future ahead of them.
“We cannot complete this work without your innovation, your determination, and your unique perspective. I’m not just hopeful about the future — I’m certain of it because leaders like you are at the table. The work begins now, and it begins with you.”
BPL remains committed to “Building for Better,” encouraging all students to pursue careers in energy so that Bahamians remain at the forefront of powering the nation’s future.
