NASSAU, The Bahamas — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) wishes to acknowledge that a male employee, currently listed in stable condition, is under medical observation in New Providence following an industrial accident. The incident occurred in Marsh Harbour, Abaco, shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while the employee was working on an underground cable near the Regattas of Abaco resort.

Marvin Green, Regional Manager for the Northern Family Islands Division, confirmed that a preliminary investigation found that “sometime shortly after 11:00 a.m., BPL’s Distribution Department received a report that a member of the company’s field team had sustained an electrical shock while performing maintenance work on an underground cable, as part of efforts to restore power supply to the Regattas of Abaco resort.”

“Immediate on-site assistance was provided, and emergency protocols were activated without delay,” Green added.

He further noted that the employee sustained burn injuries to his arms and was airlifted to New Providence for further medical evaluation and treatment. By all accounts, he remains alert, stable, and responsive as he continues to receive care.

BPL has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the contributing factors that led to the industrial accident. Our team remains in close contact with medical personnel in New Providence, and we wish to reiterate that the company remains fully committed to the safety of its employees and consumers at all times.
