BPL CCTV Operator Awarded Spirit of Courage Award for Saving Colleague’s Life
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 23, 2025
BPL CCTV Operator Wendy Rolle with the Spirit of Courage Award after her quick thinking and courageous actions saved a coworker’s life. The award, created by Chief Executive Officer Toni Seymour, recognizes the heroic actions demonstrated by team members that go above and beyond in the face of adversity.
The incident occurred on October 19, 2025, during Rolle’s 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift. While monitoring the internal surveillance system, she noticed a security officer seated in an abnormal position.
“At about 11:40 p.m., I noticed the officer was leaning back in the chair in an odd position,” Rolle recalled. “I called the entrance gate and asked them to check on him. As I watched on camera, I saw someone tapping the officer and trying to bring him to, but he wasn’t responding.”
Realizing the severity of the situation, Rolle immediately sprang into action.
“I quickly called 911 and asked for an ambulance. I contacted my supervisor to update him, then ran downstairs to see how I could help,” she said. “After confirming he was unresponsive and not breathing, I began chest compressions. After about ten minutes, he became responsive. The ambulance arrived shortly after.”
During the award presentation, BPL Chief Executive Officer Toni Seymour expressed gratitude for Rolle’s bravery. “This is what it means to be part of the One BPL Family: no one gets left behind,” Seymour said. “In that moment, many people would have panicked. But you stayed calm, took decisive action, and saved a man’s life. For that, we are all truly grateful.”
BPL Security Manager Adrian Curry echoed Seymour’s sentiment and noted his admiration for Rolle’s bravery. “I was genuinely impressed by Ms Rolle’s leadership, decisive action, and exceptional vigilance. Her response directly resulted in a life being saved.”
Despite the praise, Rolle remained humble, describing her actions as part of her duty — both as a CCTV Operator and a human being. “I did what anybody would have done. I saw someone in need and I assisted. That’s what I’m here to do, protect life, property, and assets.”
As part of its ongoing commitment to safety and security, BPL requires all staff to be CPR-certified, ensuring employees are prepared to respond effectively in moments that matter most. Zanda Bonamy, Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), said this incident highlights the importance of being CPR certified. “If Ms. Rolle did not receive the necessary training, this incident may have turned out differently. This is why we take great pride in equipping our team members with the necessary skills to provide basic assistance when needed,” said Ms. Bonamy.
Rolle’s bravery stands as an inspiring example for the entire BPL family.
