Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. advises customers that power supplies in flood affected areas may be interrupted due to a safety risk associated with the flooding. An assessment will be made once flood waters have abated to ensure that power is restored safely to residents in the affected areas.
BPL recommends to customers that if it can be done safely, to turn off your breakers until the water levels have subsided. Customers should also avoid touching or using electrical appliances while standing on wet or flooded surfaces.
Customers that have been affected by severe flooding that have emergency generators should also take the step of isolating these units so that they do not energize compromised electrical wiring.
Customers are also advised that they should have a licensed electrical contractor inspect their homes if they were impacted to the extent that electrical outlets were impacted by flood waters.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this. Updates to follow.
