BPL Restores Power to Little Grand Cay, Outlines Plans to Improve Reliability

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 27, 2026
Nassau, New Providence — Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) confirms that electricity was restored to residents of Little Grand Cay shortly after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following an extended disruption in power supply to the community.
BPL Northern Regional Manager Marvin Green said the company’s focus is now on maintaining reliable service while addressing the longer-term generation needs of the cay.
“We understand the frustration this outage caused for residents of Little Grand Cay, and while we are pleased that power has been restored, our work does not stop there,” said Green. He added that BPL is also advancing plans to strengthen generation capacity on Little Grand Cay as part of a longer-term solution to improve reliability for residents.
“Over the past two years, BPL has been developing a long-term generation solution for Little Grand Cay that will provide increased capacity, appropriate backup generation and greater security of supply,” Green said. “That project, which will now be expedited, has moved into the development stage, and we are evaluating vendors and equipment to put a more resilient generation system in place on the cay.”
As part of its next steps, BPL plans to visit Little Grand Cay and meet directly with residents to hear their concerns, provide updates, and discuss the company’s plans for improving electricity generation and reliability in the community.
During the visit, residents who believe appliances or other electrical equipment were damaged as a result of power-related issues will also have an opportunity to submit a Customer Damage Claim Form for review in accordance with BPL’s established claims process.
The company recognizes the hardship an extended loss of electricity can cause, particularly for residents of Family Island communities, and remains committed to working with the people of Little Grand Cay as these improvements are advanced.
The company thanks residents for their patience and understanding while teams worked to restore supply and looks forward to engaging with the community during its upcoming visit.
As BPL continues to ‘Build for Better,’ the company remains committed to assessing the generation requirements of Little Grand Cay and reviewing measures aimed at strengthening generation capacity and reducing the likelihood of similar disruptions in the future.
