FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 7, 2025
Crooked Island — Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) confirms that power was successfully restored to Crooked Island as of 8:11 PM today, following an early morning island-wide power outage.
Local technicians immediately responded and confirmed that the outage was caused by a fallen high-voltage line. Technicians from New Providence arrived in Crooked Island at 5:28 pm, and the entire island was fully restored at 8:11 pm.
Regional Manager, Southern Region, Pedro Marcello, thanks consumers in Crooked Island for their patience. “We appreciate the patience shown by the residents of Crooked Island as our technicians worked tirelessly to resolve this issue and restore power safely across the island.”
Overhaul repairs continue on two units, which remain out of service. It is expected that both power generation units will be brought back online in the coming months.
BPL continues to “Build for Better” in an effort to provide all of its consumers with a reliable and sustainable power supply.
